World Market Center names Jamie Drake 2012 Design Icon

LAS VEGASNew York designer Jamie Drake will be celebrated at this month's Las Vegas Market as the 2012 Design Icon, officials at the World Market Center announced.

The award, given annually to an interior designer or furniture designer who has made significant contributions in the home furnishings industry, will be presented during market, which runs Jan. 30 - Feb. 3.
Drake is head of Drake Design Associates, which offers decorating, construction design and managing planning services. His work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Interior Design and the New York Times, and he has received the IFDA New Year Circle of Excellence for Interior Design and has been named Andrew Martin International Designer of the Year.
"Each year, as a market, we strive to deliver what's new on every front," said Bob Maricich, CEO of WMC parent International Market Centers. "We've seen Jamie Drake do the same with his bold, colorful designs and believe he is very deserving of such accolades and industry recognition."
Drake said he was thrilled to be named the 2012 Design Icon. "I cannot think of a more appropriate place than the glitz, glamour and sparkle of Las Vegas for me to receive this honor and be recognized for my work."
Past winners of the award include Christopher Guy, Larry Laslo, Juan Montoya, Roger Thomas and Vicente Wolf.
